Scholarship Background Information
Higher education has played an important role in the life of the Subbaswamy family. All four members of the family – Kumble, Mala, daughter Apurva, and son Adarsh – were fortunate enough to earn graduate degrees. Chancellor Subbaswamy, through the generosity of an anonymous donor, came to the United States from India to earn a doctorate degree in physics at Indiana University Bloomington. Over the years, the promise of public research universities has remained central to the Subbaswamy family; both Kumble and Mala were employed at public universities. The family is happy to “pay it forward” by establishing this scholarship endowment to help STEM students in financial need.
